The Bergen International Conference on Leprosy

Yuliati, vice chair PerMaTa, spoke a the conference to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the leprosy bacillus. Watch her speech here! The event was organized by the Sasakawa Leprosy (Hansen’s Disease) Initiative and the University of Bergen, and attended by around 200 people, including medical experts, human rights advocates, historical preservation experts, researchers, NGOs, and representatives of organizations of persons affected by leprosy.

We hope that this conference, including Yuli’s speech, will help to ensure that leprosy is not forgotten, that people understand that leprosy does not end with the fight against the bacillus alone, and that we must all work together not only to eleminate leprosy in the future, but also to help affected people now.
