May 2022. To close our 3-month pilot project about how people affected by leprosy can investigate human rights violation, we reported our results to the leprosy control program of South Sulawesi and to the head of the health department in Jenponto.
The team of young people affected by leprosy had been in Jeneponto district to investigate 5 cases of possible human rights violations. We also identified 3 problems common to many of the cases: delayed MDT delivery, unfulfilled referral for rehabilitation , and the pervasive stigma.
We collected our experiences and lessons learnt in a guideline, which hopefully can be useful for other groups of people affected by leprosy to investigate and prove human rights violations in leprosy.
We thank Sasakawa Health Foundation (SHF) for supporting this important project.
